Why is acrylic bad for stretching?

Can someone enlighten me with the details on this topic. What if I used clear acrylic jewelry until my piercing healed and then went to colors? If it's that bad of a thing then I'm not going to risk it.

from what i heard acrylic is not only non-autoclavable, but it is also somewhat porous...meaning stuff can get in it to irritate your piercing and it does not promote healing.

if you want something clear to heal with glass is very good.
    otherwise...steel, niobium, titanium, PTFE...

I have never had problems stretching with acrylic. But, is that good for you? I would go to glass as an alternative.

acrylic tapers are fine to use for stretching ONLY. you will only get infections and such if you leave them in for extended periods of time. as long as you put a plug in right after your stretch you will be fine. i have used acrylic tapers for every one of my stretches and have never had any problems.
