Several questions regarding brow, conch & tongue [RESOLVED]

     Okay, here we goes!

    1. My eyebrow isn't healing well. Only the bottom half is really "healed", but the top half is often pissy and red. I'm wearing a NeoMetal Ti 16g 3/8 curve. I've had it for 5 months or so, and the top still scabs, crusts, and is irritated. Should I get it redone or what?

    2. I have hypertrophic scarring on my 2 month old conch. I'm wearing a backwards steel labret stud and I use emu oil daily. I'm wondering, is there anything else I should be doing besides SSS and emu oil? And is there a better earbud-friendly jewelry choice?

    3. I don't have my tongue pierced yet, but for those who've had it done:

How long did you wear the initial jewelry, and what length was it?

Do you constantly notice it while talking, eating, drinking, etc?

How long did it personally take you to heal?

I wore the 1.5 inch barbell for two weeks, I think... and once the initial swelling had gone down, my piercer switched it out for 1 inch.

I do not constantly notice it.. but I've stretched it up to 6g for greater oral satisfaction (I have a bit of an oral fixation).

I honestly do not remember how long it took to heal... a month, I think.

Re: Several questions regarding brow, conch & tongue

i wore initial jewelry for about a week and a half, and the barbell was 20 mm long, (not including balls). i didnt have it for very long, not because it bothered me or anything, but i was forced to take it out by my mom >.< anyway it never got in the way of eating or talking, and was a bit difficult to talk with until it healed. it took about a week and a half to heal, and that is when i changed the barbell to a shorter one.

Maybe go to your piercer about your eyebrow.  The jewelry could be too long or short and be irritating the piercing.

Is the scarring on your conch on the front, back, or both?  I've never really had a problem with earbuds, even with a regular barbell with a ball on the front.  I just found the smallest earbuds I could.  I'd keep doing the soaks, and LITHA otherwise and see if it calms down some...

I've had my tongue pierced (and retired) twice.  I don't remember the length of the barbell, but I do know that it healed really quickly.  I was eating and talking normally within just a few days.  The roof of my mouth is REALLY high, though, so I think the barbell had plenty of room to move around. hehe

I like it a lot because...because it pisses you off!

My eyebrow is fixed! Apparently it was angled awkwardly and got knocked around, so he redid it for free with my old jewelry (he sterilized it of course)

My conch is only having trouble in the back of my ear. The front has no scarring at all...I heard something about using a chamomile tea bag as a compress, how does that work?

I've had my tongue pierced going on two years ago now.  Initially it was pierced at 14g with a 1-inch long barbell.

My tongue swelled pretty nicely  >:  I had trouble talking for about 4 days.  I had a slight lisp.  The swelling filled up the entire 1-inch barbell.  I have a pic of it swelled up actually:

About an entire month later I swapped it out for a 14g 5/8" barbell.  I let it heal for maybe 2-2.5 months and it self-stretched to 12g.

I waited another 1-2 months and stretched it to 10g.

Now it's over a year later than that and I just stretched to 8g the other day  :3  I still use 5/8" length barbells.

00g lobes; 18g right helix; 16g left rook; 12g left conch; 8g tongue; 18g double nostrils; 14g septum

Ink: Simba on right shoulder blade; Daisy behind left ear; Sugar Skull on right forearm

    Do want.

I used chamomile compresses on my nostril when it developed the dreaded bump while healing. just get some chamomile tea bags (make sure you get the herbal tea bags that are all chamomile and not ones that have chamomile included with regular tea leaves), boil a cup of water, throw the tea bag in, let it soak for a bit and then take out the tea bag and hold it against the bump. re-dip as needed to keep the tea bag warm. I alternated salt soaks and chamomile for ~2 weeks and it worked like a charm. good luck!

I had the same problem with my conch after two months.  Even though it had a huge bump and was sore, I changed it from a barbell to a CBR.  Best decision.  It stopped getting knocked around so much.  I washed it morning and night with ivory soap and used tea tree oil.  emu oil is great, but here's I did.  After washing, I applied the oil and massaged it into my ear for about a minute.  I have myself convinced that the massaging did wonders.  I also massaged it while I washed it.  The bump went away quickly, then came back and it's gone again and has been gone.  And even though it's disappeared, I've kept up with my regimen to make sure it doesnt come back.  And usually I kept my hair tied back away from it in case any hair oil or anything disturbed it.  I dont know if it does but I'm very paranoid about the bump coming back so I'm up for any type of prevention.

Re: Several questions regarding brow, conch & tongue

I had some hypertropic scarring on one side of my septum... I mixed 1 part tea tree oil and 3 parts vitamin e oil and dabbed a little on it every morning after I did a SSS... within two weeks, if not sooner, the bump went away.

If you do take this route, make sure you dont use pure tea tree oil... it's wicked strong [strong enough that it made my mom ask "what is that medicine smell in here?!" when she went into my bathroom. lol. Though once I diluted it, smelling it for a while after I put it on the piercing was quite nice. hehe.]

A bottle of tea tree oil will probably run you about $10 but imo, it's worth it.

    Current mods:

    2 10g lobes. [GOAL: 4g]
    2 14g 2nd lobes.
    2 18g 3rd lobes.
    2 18g 4th lobes.
    1 14g tongue.
    2 14g nipples.
    1 14g labret.
    1 16g septum.
    4 tattoos.

    Considering/Planning:

    VCH.
    Medusa.
    Sternum.
    Industrial.
    Double Helix.
    More tattoos.

Some people can use pure tea tree oil with no problems whatsoever. It is safe to apply as is, but some may find it to be too drying.  Dilute with a base oil (or leave it pure) depending on how sensitive your skin is and if it tends to dry out your skin.

Hey guys! Update: The bump is way smaller now, almost gone. I used emu, jojoba, and SSS all together and it worked like a charm ;D

Well...I guess everything's solved now. This can be locked/closed now.
