    New "gauged ears" rule

When I get a copy, I HAVE to scan it and post the picture... it literally says "Gauged ears must be no larger than a pencil eraser".

I work at Sheetz... which is a convience store hybrid of a food and barista stuff.. I mainly work in the coffee area, making drinks for customers. I already follow a rule of no piercings, which I understand, I've had my monroe gems pop off into the abyss, that CANNOT happen with someone's food or drink... I follow a tedious no visible tattoos rule, and wear long sleeve shirts YEAR ROUND.... but this is getting a bit much.

Espesically since I was hired at 10mm lobes... and the handbook STILL SAYS "Earrings cannot be larger than a dime"...... now under it there is a statement saying, "Gauged ears can not be larger than a pencil eraser". HOW IS THAT FAIR?!!?!

What do I do???? I really am tempted to mutilate myself, try to stretch and KEEP doing it where it looks red and cat-butt'ed the next day, and tell them "I am just following the rules and my ears can't shrink with the jewlery in!" ...... There are rumors going around that the owner of Sheetz is supposed to be stopping by our store soon, which makes this more tempting.

I left a comment on the forum thread in question (it started out as a girl infuriated that there was a "No industrial piercings" rule, but it turned out to not be true) asking if they REALIZE that stretched lobes are more permanent than a typical piercing, and if anyone plans to pay for reconstructive surgery if they start realizing how "ugly" and "unprofessional" large naked lobes are because of this new rule... The new neighboring Sheetz has an assistant manager with 1" lobes,  so I wonder what he plans to do if they enforce this hard on him just because he is more than a typical employee. I also put in my comment that a rule can't be made with the incorrect term. lol.

I need to write a letter, something... I'm just not sure what to do, where to start, and how to put it in a nice manner... any suggestions??

I would be a smart ass and say that they arent gauged... But If you wear solid plugs most of that time at that size its hard to tell the difference between plugs and gawdy jewelry...

I was the reason the dress code at my work changed like two weeks after I started there... The president didnt like me wearing jewelry in me face, so they rewrote the dress code.

    Im just that awesome!

When you work put a smaller gauge plug in, then when your off work put your regular size back in.

At 10mm I highly doubt that "pencil eraser" sized plugs would stay in without falling out. I guess the OP could put some smaller gauge CBRs in...when they get sick of looking at your naked holes (which will be noticeable since the CBRs will weigh them down) they might change their mind about the jewelry thing...

You could get some silicone hider plugs and take some large stud earrings (you know the ones with really large gems or plastic flowers, etc.) and pierce them through the silicone to mask the look of stretched lobes.

     I'm allergic to silicone :(

My manager doesn't care, but every 4 months we have Sheetz inspectors that fly in to inspect our store and see if we get a bonus on our check or not... bonuses can range from 15 cents to $500 extra dollars, IF everything is up to code--including uniform rules. ugh. I know if a few hundred dollars would be knocked off thanks to my ears, I'd get a lot of angry people coming my way.

have you tried parylene coated silicone? its a medical grade coating that makes the silicone less tacky and is a great option for people who can't normally wear silicone products

Can you arrange to take the day off when the inspectors are there?  It's not a permanent solution but it would work for now.

I would get some glass and apply make up of your skin onto the front. I'm fairly certain that GWS's plugs tend to have flat fronts which will also help hide them. Having hair that goes below your ears will also increase your chances of people not noticing...

I'm a slight perfectionist, though I understand the balance of both perfection and imperfection; for what we are not makes us what we are, and vice versa.

Or nail polish perhaps, for something more permanent and durable?

I think make up would be better because it would be easier to match her skin tone and wouldn't be shiny which would be kind of obvious...

    Re: New "gauged ears" rule

If its a huge issue just consider not wearing them at work, I now dont wear my 1" jewellery while sleeping and I tend to sleep for 7-10 hours and have no problem putting them in when I wake up.

You can always claim that a rule exists and you should be allowed your ears but they can always find some way to fire you.

My advice is find a more mod-friendly industry(retail sales in lots of stores are) or just dont wear them at work! Naked lobes look great in my opinion anyway(plus if you got medium + length hair you can always hide you ears!)

In this economy it's hard to just 'find a more mod-friendly industry'.  I'd go with not wearing jewelry, or wearing hiders.

    Re: New "gauged ears" rule

Does BAF sell the medical grade silicone??? I may give it a try... I'm just worried. I wore typical silicone once, and I woke up with my throat swollen. They had to put weird drain bags where my glands are so I could breathe. scary stuff.

& There is also a rule that all hair must be in our hats, so I can't hide it with hair either :(

The inspectors never say when they are coming, so the results can be genuine... I asked the manager about "hiding" me (like doing trash outside or something), but two issues may be a problem. 1, my friend works there, and is also at 00g... what if we both need to be out of sight? and two, she thinks I am the best at the area I am normally assigned to, and she doesn't trust anyone else to be working that area if an inspector drops by.... my friend works the food most of the time, and the manager thinks the same about her....

which brought our manager saying "IF they wanna fire or harass my two best employees because of a pre-existing issue, they will never hear the end of it until they are brought back"... I'm happy to have her support, but there are so many *higher-ups* so who knows

All silicone from kaos is medical grade, and the stuff labled parylene has the coating I mentioned. Both of which baf already carries and if they don't have the specific size or color you need you can order it directly.
