Nose shape not suited for Septum?

Edit: Its done! For now I have a retainer:

My coworker did not say anything, just stared, remember - she thought anyone past 20 is too old for it..<_<, wonder what she plans to do with hers in 2 years.

    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

A friend of mine just got her Septum pierced. It looks very nice and reminded me on the fact that I went in for a Septum piercing 3 years ago and was told the shape of my nose is not suited for it. Not the septum part itself has the "weird shape", its my actual nose!

My friends nose is a bit similar, just wider and I thought that maybe the piercer that send me away was just not that knowledgeable. What he said was basically that my nose points up too much and that the piercing would have to be placed by the very tip of my nose, which would not look good, neither could it be hidden for work etc.

I have some pictures here on which I am wearing a fake Septum Ring..Embarrassed, what do you think? Impossible nose and placement? Like I said I would rather have the septum a bit further back, closer to the face. And since my nose points up I imagine it might be difficult to hide if not pierced really high? I really have to be careful with facial piercings because of work, and ..well my husband does not love them either, so the Septum would just be for me ;)

    Looking straight/ photoshopped

Nose from below/ nose side view

I think it does not look bad on me but that real jewelry would even fit better. My coworker is also concerned that I'm too old for wanting facial piercings...huh? Does that mean I look old or its a silly childlike thing to do? (Note: I don't care what she thinks, but those are the silly answers some people give you...needed to share) Huh? The at home pictures would probably look better if I was healthy...I was sick from May to October..hope to look fresher again soon ;)

    Anyway, feedback is appreciated! _______________________________

Edit: I paint-ed some nice jewelry options

I was also healthier here..I like it much better than the fake ring. Could not do a retainer with paint though...looks weird.

Feel around in your nose for the soft, fleshy 'sweet spot', which is the area most often pierced on the septum. If the piercing goes through cartilage instead, it can be significantly more painful with a longer healing time in some individuals. It's impossible to tell where your sweet spot is located through photos alone.

Regarding your question about whether piercing a septum is childlike or not, I think you should start to ignore other peoples' opinions when it comes to matters of your own body. If you want the hole, get it. If you don't want it, don't get it. Allowing your husband or coworker to make or sway decisions for you would be the only childlike maneuver.

Haha..I DO ignore other peoples opinions all the time, which is why I have literally no friends. Everyone considers me a freak...my interests and hobbys, the way I dress, the way I look..my hair...Please don't misunderstand the kind of person I am.

But as far as piercings go:

My husband would be the only person I listen to, we have been married for 5 1/2 yrs. and I care whether he finds something pretty or not :) I never thought this was childish in any way...just considerate.

As far as my coworker goes, I just wanted to make fun of her because she said something so stupid...oh and she meant to say I look too old...as in "aged" and thats why it is silly...I did not really get it just wanted to share. She has a Septum herself and I asked her a few questions..but all she said is it would not be for meStick out tongue

I can feel the sweet spot but its hard to imagine how the jewelry would fit. I did not know cartilage OR that soft spot could be pierced.

I personally think it looks great on you, and even if you may have concerns about what other people think, please don't ever think you're "too old" for a certain piercing. If it's something you want and it can be done safely, I don't think your age should impact your decision whether to get a piercing or not.

edit: I have my septum pierced and it is close to the tip of my nose. If I'm not mistaken I think that's where most if not all people have a "sweet spot," which is the most desirable location for a piercing.

IMHO I also think it looks good on you, and my septum "sweet spot" was also towards the very tip of my nose, I had to flip up the jewellery and found the position perfect on me. Your piercer would/should help you with and specific requests like that if possible.

In regards to what other people think, maybe try wearing the fake one around and see the remarks or non-remarks you recieve. I also wanted to share this quote, which a friend of mine in South Korea has tattooed on him... :)

" the only difference between tattooed people and non-tattooed people is that tattooed people don't care if your not tattooed..."

Either way, do what feels right to you and good luck!

Naahh....I would be the type to keep my piercings until I am actually old. Maybe not all due to comfort but I don't think I could ever be without my nostril. My coworker is just angry because another coworker recently guessed our age and guessed her at 26 when she is 18 and me at 20, before we had a disussing about how pale I am and I pointed out how harmful tanning is and how fast it makes you age...she loves to tan. Ever since she has been making comments that don't really have any foundation because she could not even find fine lines or anything. So I guess she is just really peeved.

By tip of your nose you mean it is far away from you face? I don't think that would look nice on my nose since the tip is so very far from the rest of the face..Hmm, but it makes sense since that is the thinnest part..

I wore the fake one yesterday actually. My husband immedietaely said: "take that ugly ring out". And his coworker shrieked..grabbing his Septum as if he was in pain. Well, they would not have to see it..also I really do not care what other people think... ^^

That quote is very nice, I have wondered the same thing actually..but non tattoed or non pierced people think they are the ones that do the right thing, they are just too convinced.Stick out tongue

I have to admit I am a quote junkie and consol myself with more intelligent peoples thoughts. So in regard to " but non tattoed or non pierced people think they are the ones that do the right thing, they are just too convinced.Stick out tongue " I would console myself with....

try goin to a different piercer and get a second opinion.

and as far as trying out the septum. u should get a smaller diameter ring to test it out with. i see in the above picture its a huge diameter ring, and most people will immediately see it as too big and clunky and in the way.

and old?! u dont look much older than me

i has: 5/8" septum, retired 5/8" lobes, 00g second holes for a year till 07/2010 :'( , 3.25 hours of tattoo work(stomach/inner lip), retired 4g prince albert for 6g apadrayvya, toddler sized 10g horizontal nipples.

Re: Nose shape not suited for Septum?

Yeah I will see a piercer some time next week probably.

The ring above is a 14g , 10mm CBR without the B. Will see if I can try out a smaller one. My nose is tiny and I might need really small jewelry for the septum. Do retainers come in smaller sizes? I have only seen them varying from 18-10g

I don't know how old you are, but I hope younger than 27...which is my age.Stick out tongue

i think a barbell about that size would look lovely on you. most people can pull a septum piercing off, and i think you definitely can. and who cares about age! seriously, go for it :]
