    knife vs needle!

In your fine people's expert opinions, which is more painful; scalpelling of the ear lobes or a good sized tattoo (i.e not a dime sized rose on yr shoulder)?

If tattoo, which one(s) (cause it's a good conversation starter, obviously)

0 ears (lame and working on it)
14/14/16Trip lip (cause there is no name to my knowlege)
    16 septum
    12 tattoos thus far

I don't know anything about scalpeling, but my boyfriend got a full arm tribal design, and it hurt him for about a month.

    Two ear piercings...
    a belly button piercing...
    and a headache...

    That's what I have.

My, my, what big teeth you have!

Good times never seemed so good.

I havent had anything scalpelled yet, but I can imagine that overall a large tattoo would hurt more...

It is two totally different types of pain. Scalpelling is not that bad and is over pretty quickly. A big tattoo can take hours upon hours and it will totally depend on where on your body you get it, who is tattooing you, and how you feel pain.

i havent been tattoo'd, but im willing to bet that it hurts more than scalpelling. my scalpelling was just like an intense papercut for like 5 seconds. easy peasy

    Re: knife vs needle!

I remember the first thing I thought of was a medium rare steak being cut... lol it was totally bearable. I can only get tattooed for about 3 hours at a time or I get too fidgety, but I would much rather go through the scalpelling than sit for a long time. Not to say that I wont try to go for longer than 3 hours if I needed to. all of my tattoos have taken no more than 3hrs so far.

I get super fidgety too. The longest I have sat is 4 hours. I can only imagine that getting tattooed hurts worse for longer

Future mods: high nostrils.8g flats. tattoos

I have no tattoos to speak of yet, but scalpelling my ears was nothing. It felt like pressure and a wee bit of a burning sensation, then it was done. The taper hurt a little because it was cold and I didn't expect it.

Will knit/crochet for pretties. Seriously, try me. I like shiny ^.^

I haven't been tattooed extensively, but some of my friends who have been said the feeling of the needle going over bony parts is REALLY unpleasant. I'd probably take scalpelling because it's over and done with faster, but of course this comes from someone who laid under a scalpel for 12 hours to get her whole back cut. :D

I seem to have missed Ann's rude comment.  :(

and on topic, what was said earlier.  two completely different types of pain.  and fwiw, I'd rather have my ears scalpeled 10x before I stubbed my toe ever again.

Hahah I love the people on here.

Thanks to everyone for responding btw, cause my ears are hella uneven so I looked up scalpelling and after seeing the dudes sawing on peoples ears, I wasn't so enthusiastic.

But I'm glad to hear that's it's not as unpleasant as bone tats (which do hurt like a b*tch)

It's definitely not as brutal as it may look. :)
