Most of the time people don't realise how old the thread is and they try to fix a situation that has already been resolved sometimes months ago (Think the "omggg my ears are ripped what do i do??" threads).

Theyre just dead threads.

If they're searchign for an answer they can find it in that thread, no need to respond if it helped them. If they think they're helping and the thread is say 3 months old, a lot of the time the OP isnt around anymore... It helps keep clutter down. We have so much going on that it can just get out of hand. There are times we can have 3 pages of new posts in one day, its a lot easier to handle if they're new/always going topics than something older...

I think if you read through and follow the threads, you'll see that often tje new poster to old threas has not really added to the discussion.  Kinda like.. just co-signing on what has already been said.  While that might be fine for something current.. something from 6 months to 4 years ago... naw.. not really.
