    Can you tattoo over stretch-marks?

Okay, scratch the whole batskull tattoo of the agenda, I got more important things to deal with.

So heres the story, I'm 17 and suffer from (what I think are) bad stretchmarks. I have them on my hips, thighs, backs of my knees and all around my boobs. I've spent £70 on different creams from Emu Oil to Bio Oil to Cocoa Butter etc, using them daily and nothing is helping them fade.

As pathetic as it sounds, I get severely depressed by these marks, especially the ones on my hips. They resemble claw marks and have had people say to me 'How were you attacked?' :/
I can't wear short tshirts incase they are seen and I've become somewhat depressed about it and often cry about them. I don't feel 'sexy' and can't even get dressed in front of my boyfriend anymore. What hurts even more is the fact that no surgery will help get rid of them.

You might say 'learn to accept them', but I cant. Ive become obsessive about this, I think about my stretchmarks from the moment I wake up to the moment I eventually get to sleep.

I had a breakthrough though, I thought 'maybe I can get a tattoo over them and that will make them less noticable'

    (crap gotta go)

So is it possible to tattoo over them?

Yes, you can certainly tattoo over stretchmarks. I have quite a few myself, and I had had work done over them. It is, however, somewhat tricky to get the lines straight when passing over them. If your artist is good, though, she'll be able to do so effectively.

Just remember that the majority of women (and many men!) have stretch marks, regardless of their build, as any rapid growth can cause them.

I like the idea of tattooing over them if it will bring you piece of mind. Have you thought of an overarching theme for the tattoo(s) yet?

A friend of mine had a floral tattoo to cover stretch marks. Her tattooist said they could be covered but limited the designs as things like tribal wouldnt look very good and could blur. It came out really well. As long as you go to a good tattooist you shouldnt have a problem.

i cant look at that link to bme but i think that is a wonderful idea to turn something that makes you feel uncomfortable in your own skin into something beautiful, something you'd be proud of, and something u would love.

I say go for it, but realize most girls have them on their hips and sides. One of my good friends has been a ballet dancer for years and has a fantastic figure but still has stretch marks. Every girl I know has them.

I may consider covering my scars up with tattoos, but maybe not. I'd rather not hide and forget about something that causes me emotional pain, I want to face it and deal with it first. I have horrible ones too, especially over my obliques. But I owned it by wearing a 2 piece last summer and now feel much more confident about my body because I realized that people aren't going to vomit until the death at the site of my imperfections. Don't medicate yourself, choose therapy first. And then when you can finally deal with the problem head-on get a tribute tattoo for overcoming it.

Perhaps I've been reading too much feminist material lately.

the best success I have seen with tattooign over stretch marks was when the stretch marks were incorporated into the tattoo. like giving texture to water. it really made the tattoo *pop*

Re: Can you tattoo over stretch-marks?

Thank you very much for your input.

I mean, if I could, I'd tattoo over every stretchmark on my body, but I don't quite like the idea of a full body tattoo, haha.
My main focus are the 'claw marks' on my hips.

I'm not entirely sure on designs, but it would need to be symetrical since I'm getting it done on both sides of my hips. Strangely, the stretchmarks are symetrical too :/

I'm very into my Japanese culture, so perhaps something Japanese related. I was considering stars, but they are overused, especially amougst the emo/scensters.

I want something original, yet different. Hmm.

Re: Can you tattoo over stretch-marks?

you definitely can, sometimes cosmetic tattooing is used on scars to make them blend in with the natural flesh tones.

are the marks dark or have they whitened up? (if they are red still, tattooing over them may irritate them. light and healed should be fine) Vitamin E is not only good for your lobes, but stretch marks also. :)

now i'm not saying suck it up and accept them (i've got plenty of my own and am not a big fan either) but don't let something like stretch marks stop you from enjoying your life! maybe getting tattooed over them will turn them into a positive instead of a negative :D

To add to what everyone else has been saying, how long have you been applying the creams? It can take a while to lighten them. They may also fade with time. I had stretchmarks on my breasts when I was 12 from going from nothing to C in like, a week, but they faded over the years and became unnoticable.

Re: Can you tattoo over stretch-marks?

i have quite an amount of stretch marks on my hips and upper-upper thighs/behind, which i assume are from growing and getting tall so fast... i pretty much stopped growing in 8th grade. they do make me uncomfortable at times, but not enough to do anything about it. i do like the idea of tattoos there, though. killing two birds with one stone, i guess hah

Re: Can you tattoo over stretch-marks?

This is kind of a blurry picture, so it's hard to make out the stretch marks, but rest assured that there are many on this area. :)

Edit: Please excuse the size, I forgot to change the picture resolution on my phone before taking it.
