Hiding a septum piercing for long periods?

Hi. Im thinking about getting my septum pierced but because of school and work im going to have to hide it alot. A friend of mine has hers pierced and she says keeping it flipped up for a while is a bit irritating. So i was thinking that maybe i could get labret jewelry instead of the normal ring. Could this be possible?

I have a no-flare glass piece in right now, after a fresh stretch from 12g to 10g. You may also want to try a bullet keeper.  It really depends on what gauge you'd be pierced with.

I would probably wait until school is out though, to give it the most time possible to heal without having to flip it up and down all the time.  Or you could keep it flipped up, but that sometimes is uncomfortable.

when mine was 1at pierced I was still in high school so I had to hide it about 20 hours a day from my parents. I wore a retainer in it and It didn't bother me at all. Small pinchers also worked well to flip up without discomfort.
1.5" lobes, 4g conches (punched at 4g stretched to 2g) , 2g nostrils (stretched from 8g piercings), 18g high nostrils,

If you have correct jewelry that's correctly fitted it shouldn't be uncomfortable. Any competent piercer will be able to do this for you.

While constantly flipping it up and down can be irritating, keeping it flipped up all the time shouldn't be. I've had my septum pierced for 5 years and I never wear it down (and have never had problems/irritation).

There are so many septum retainers out there, you really need to experiment to find what works for you. More than likely, your piercer will pierce you and put a retainer to keep flipped up during the healing process. After it heals you and experiment or stretch with different retainers...whatever you choose.

Btw, I lost my niobium 12g retainer in my sleep cause my septum fistula got kinda loose, and the round retainer was moving around in there too much.  A retainer with sharp right angles or sizing up would have prevented this. Retainers are super comfy and I wear mine up constantly.

I wear my flipped up the majority of the time and don't find it irritating at all.  Like everyone else said, just get a retainer that fits properly.  For all of my retainers, I've had to adjust the width with a pair of pliers to make it a bit wider so it doesn't pinch.

    Lobes: 5/8" lobes x2; 2g x1 (2nd hole); 4g x1 (3rd hole). 10g septum. 8g tongue. 12g nipple. 16g eyebrow. 2.5 year old dreads. Sternum microdermal (rejected).

I've had my septum for almost 2 years and no one but my best friend even knows I have it. I always wear it up or with a plug, and its at 6g now.

Will knit/crochet for pretties. Seriously, try me. I like shiny ^.^

When I got mine peirced I had a retainer put in and flipped up from the get go.  It was weird at first but I also had a difficult time with the healing.  My nostril has been much easier.  After a few weeks I would flip it up and down and I normally wear it flipped up for days at a time.  You'll get used to it at some point.  Also can use a bullet like others said after it's healed for sometime.
