So I'm seriously considering getting a lip piercing, probably on my left side. Anybody with personal experience, (or anyone really) is there any advice you can give me? What do you guys wear in your labret piercing? Other than standard labrets, of course. Also, can you give me any suggestions on retainers? My family is way not into piercings, so a retainer will be needed. Thanks so much.

Try using a glass retainer, not an acrylic one during healing.

As for jewelry, try different ends on labret studs or segment rings (my personal favorites)

Gum recession isn't too common, and you can get it angled where it barely touches your gums.

I just got my central labret done yesterday, it's easy :) I've just got a 1.6mm labret in there at the moment with a jewelled ball but when I downsize it I'm gonna move to bioplast stem and take advantage of all the new dermal anchor attachments that thread 1.6mm stems ;) I have mine a bit lower coz I like my little bit of beard bit that's right under my lip and didn't want the jewellery to be hidden in there

if you were planning on hiding it from your family, i dont think putting in a retainer will work. that can make it less noticeable, but they'll definitely discover it
