What is on the back of my ear?

I first noticed this lump behind my ear two days ago, it started itching yesterday, and today it has grown in size. I have not had anything like this before so I am a bit worried. Brief stretching history: I was pierced at a 10g, waited at least a month to stretch to 8g, waited 2 months to goto 6g, then waited 3 months to stretch to 4g, and that was 3 weeks ago today. I wash my ears usually once a day with a mild soap, and do a jojoba massage once a day, usually before bed. Any other questions, just ask. Photobucket

It looks like a cyst. I get them from time to time. Try not to bump or massage the area, it should go away on its own. If it gets considerably worse, you may want to head to your physician.

    +1.

However, you stretch only a month after you were pierced? Baad idea! Wait atleast 6 months from the initial piercing. I shouldn't think that has anything to do with the cyst, but just a bit of advice. Remember its always better to go too slow then too fast!

Thanks you two, so I guess my best plan of action right now is to just ignore it? I am very aware of how long I should wait after a fresh piercing, I just didn't know at the time because it was my first time stretching and once I did some more research I found out the appropriate amount of time but it was too late. Thank you for the advice though!

I think you should see a doc just to be safe...

Yeah it could be a harmless little cyst and be no problem, but what if its an abscess or something else?  I dont mean to scare you but, better safe then sorry.  it's never a good idea to get medical advise from an online forum.  :/ if you dont have health insurance drop into a free clinic, but I wouldn't just ignore lumps that where growing on my body if I where you, that says something isn't right some how or another.

OP, is it STILL growing in size, or has it gone down?  If it doesn't hurt, and doesn't have any liquids coming out of it, I really wouldn't worry TOO much about it.  But, if it DOES start hurting or growing, or if you can move it around, I'd go to the dr.

Sorry for not updating! It has completely gone away, so it looks like it was just a cyst. My ears and the area around them are completely happy now! Thank you all for the concern.

PS. To anyone else experiencing this, my best advice is to touch it as little as possible. Once I quit feeling around 20 times a day to see if it had gone down, it went away in a little over two days.

Haha...good advice. I currently have one that's flaring up...I generally get them in the ridge of my cartilage on the back of my ear, and I have a habit of messing with them.
