    Problems with my Snug

So, my snug is about 4 months old (I know it takes 6months+ to actually heal) and I think it has hypertropic scarring and I want to know what to do. It was pierced with a curved barbell and I sss it every day and use provon on it in the mornings with a cotton swab. I have many products like emu oil, tea tree oil, and H2O Spray and I was wondering if using any of those would help.

    Thanks.

truth is - i have no real experience to help... also, like others, i imagine pics/questions might help determine if theres anything that can be done...  however, i personally would suggest just going to your piercer and asking...  it mightve been awhile - but they (piercers) are usually quite helpful and friendly because they would like you to keep coming back...  he/she should be able to look at your piercing directly and make a very-informed decision as to what-it-is (ht-scarring?) and what-to-do...  if you have any doubts after the consultation - then just like any professional, you can go to a different one and get a second opinion...

It the jewelry experiencing a lot of movement, or is it too long? This can cause scarring like you describe. Also, I find Provon unnecessary, but some people love it...since it doesn't seem to be doing what you want it to do I'd stop using it. H2ocean spray is basically sea salt and water, and a soak would be much better if you're doing the sea salt thing, so I'd skip it. Some people have had luck with tea tree oil, but some find it too strong to apply as is. You can dilute it in a bit of emu oil or another oil like jojoba and apply it that way. Chamomile compresses (using teabags) are often recommended but I haven't personally tried this. I'd have it evaluated by a piercer to determine if a jewelry change is in order, then start trying some of the other "common" recommendations.

thanks guys, I'm definitely going to talk to my piercer about it and see what's up. I'll try the tea bags in the mean time.

I do sss 1 or 2 times a day (a fourth tsp for every 8oz of water) and I use provon every once in awhile.I  did notice that my jewelry moves pretty easily so I'm going to talk to my piercer about a possible jewelry change.

    Re: Problems with my Snug

I just recently had a problem with my conch...I had a large barbell in and it got severely knocked one day and it formed a HUGE (i mean really big) hypertrophic scar and abscess on it.  i got so upset so i used H2Ocean (i swear by this stuff) about 6 times a day, and i applied tea tree oil (i use it non diluted) once in the morning and once at night before bed.  it started to go away, and i decided that the large barbell was a nuisance so i did change it to a CBR and kept with my routine.  the bump is completely gone; it took about 3 weeks to disappear with this consistent routine.  i swear by these two products myself.  i think switching the jewelry helped me too but i would ask a piercer before doing it.
