    Re: FSC Cigarettes

I say quit now. It's easier after only 2 years compared to 10 or 20. You should be just about to where you start getting asthma, and it goes down hill quickly from there. Why did I spend so many years paying someone to slowly kill me? I started smoking when I was 13 or 14 and have 'quit' so many times only to start again... I am a week and a day into this 'quit' and it sucks so hard. I have heard many people say quitting heroin was easier than quitting smoking, so yea, hop off that boat while you are still close to the shore.

yeah i know it is easier now to quit.  i have gotten this lecture too many times. my whole family has been smoking since my about 13 or 14 and they have no health problems at all. the only problem with me is i get winded pretty easy.  but i can still run long distances most of the time.  all i am saying is that i appreciate the advice but i get enough of this from my mom and brother.  i take care of myself and provide mostly for myself too.

All arguments about whether people should or shouldn't smoke aside, hand rolling is a generally safer way to go. There are additive free all natural tobaccos you can get, and the papers are often made of rice with safe adhesives. You can get cotton filters as well. If you're going to smoke, at least do yourself a favor and make cigarettes that aren't full of mysterious chemicals.

    Re: FSC Cigarettes

I agree. I rolled my own for a few years and other than a few people thinking I was smoking joints it was fine. Saved a ton of money too. I think I was dreaming about that last night, actually.

I still can't get over putting a flame retardant in something you intentionally burn. There was a brand of cigarettes long ago (kents) that had asbestos in them. I'm sure whoever came up with that one sleeps well at night :(

part of me thinks all this hazardous materials in cigarettes thing is all just propoganda and shit that is fed to you by anti smokers.

what kind of propaganda can be fed to smokers to benefit non-smokers? well aside from better health, which isn't really propaganda at all imo.

I think it's the other way around. everywhere you turn there's cigarette ads aiming at children, teenagers, women, men;etc through the subconscious use of sex and "cool" through television, ads on billboards, and even "anti-tobacco" ads that probably make people want to smoke more.

    don't be power trippin'.

Lol, I love how smokers get mad about shit. You're the one who does it to yourselves.

I could say the same things about people who get mad when they find out that there are crazy added hormones and antibiotics in their meat and dairy. You're the ones that do it to yourselves by not eating an organic vegan diet.

I would like to be informed of what's in anything I  consume, so I can make an informed decision on whether or not to consume it.

For example, I'm trying to avoid high fructose corn syrup. Sure, I should not be drinking soda anyway, but I'd much rather be able to choose between one with the syrup and one without when I do choose to indulge. If it weren't listed on the label, how would I know what's in what I"m consuming?

Yes, but eating is actually necessary to living, unlike smoking. Sometimes, there really is no way to tell what sort of hormones have been used, as they don't always list them. I think it's okay to get mad about someone tampering with the food off which you survive, as opposed to an uhealthy addiction.

whether it's for survival or not has nothing to do with it. Why should people/companies be allowed to keep the tampering they do to anything we consume a secret?

Why doesnt a fruit farm have to disclose what pesticides they used? Some pesticides are worse than others.

I think they should have to list what chemicals are used to treat the tobacco and the paper, same as I think that a dairy company should have to disclose whether they use Bovine Growth Hormone, and a fruit company should have to disclose what pesticides were used.

    Re: FSC Cigarettes

This one chemical they are adding is quite dangerous, and if you smoke additive free cigarettes like me, you will notice the difference in taste and in the harshness. The "oh its just one more chemical" argument is flawed.

Also, most people have their cherries FALL OUT OF THE CIGARETTE as they smoke it, which is a fire hazard, because the burning material can set stuff on fire quite easily.

Some people are also having lung problems from the new ones, and sore throat problems etc, even though they did not experience them with the non FSC cigs, and still dont experience it with the non FSCs. Some people even break out in rashes from the adhesive.

If you want to avoid FSCs, I suggest rolling your own. You can still use filters with those, and there are even really cheap rolling machines that will do the hard work for you.
