    Caring for a Rook?

I have a fresh rook piercing and am doing regular soaping with Satin and SSS...

I've been having difficulties with the SSS though.  What have been some simple ways for people to soak their rooks?  I feel that the anatomy is making it challenging to soak, personally.

00g lobes; 18g right helix; 16g left rook; 12g left conch; 8g tongue; 18g double nostrils; 14g septum

Ink: Simba on right shoulder blade; Daisy behind left ear; Sugar Skull on right forearm

    Do want.

Some people use a small glass and tilt their head. Others use cotton buds soaked in salted solution.

Thanks-- I like the cotton ball idea better.  I feel like I may have to purchase some earplugs though because water drips from the cotton into my ear canal.

Just pop a cottonball into the canal :)

    Re: Caring for a Rook?

I was feeling spontanious last week, so i walked in and got my rook done :D

The piercer reccomended that do the SSS in a drinking bottle with a pump top. I just cover my ear hole with my other hand and squeeze a decent amount of the water on to it. I tilt my head a little and let it sit for a few secs. But it seems to be working quite well. Sleeping sucks though, because i always sleep on the right side, which is the side i got it on D:U

anyways, give the bottle a try! its a little messy but if you do it morning/night its refreshing :D ahaha.

    good luck!

    Showing now!:

    -1st, 2nd, 3rd lobes.
    - Right rook.
    - Left cartridge (retired now)

Coming to an ear near you!:

That sounds worth a try  :)  Currently, I use the wet cotton ball method and just plug the ear canal with the other hand, but it's physically uncomfortable to sit like that for a few minutes.

And I have the same sleep problem.  I have a thing where I like to sleep facing a wall, which would mean my left side (rook side now).  Sad  I'm trying to teach myself to sleep on my right side but the problem with THAT is I have a sensitive cartilage piercing... if it persists I'll have to retire the cartilage  :/  I don't want to though.

As long as I don't have to sleep on my back.  I hate sleeping on my back lol

What I did was fill a cup with salt water, sit at a table and put the cup on the table. Lean over and basically stick your ear in the cup! You can kind of rest your head on the side of the cup. I sat like this for ten minutes at the kitchen table every evening and my rook has healed really well. Its a bit uncomfortable though and does hurt your neck after a while.

A bowl, a towel and a phone book. Roll the towl under your neck, place the bowl on the phone book, and lay down... Its not too bad of a set up..

    Im just that awesome!

Okay, so I've so far been sticking with the daily cotton ball method (mainly because I am in my room most of the time so it's more convenient to use the cotton there)...

How long is typical for there to be swelling near the rook?  I very lightly touched the area near the jewelry today and noticed it felt very warm and "puffed"  Tongue Tied  The piercing is about a week and a half old now though, so perhaps I should be more patient.  I expected there to be pain/discomfort for a good while but I wasn't sure about actual swelling.

Mine didnt really swell, but was tender to the touch for about two months. it still gets periodically angry if I lie on it too much. I wouldn't worry about it yet. The bowl/cup set up is a pain in the ass, but it might be good to do once in a while. Nothing beats a nice warm soak.

    Re: Caring for a Rook?

    Have you tried H2Ocean?

I haven't heard anything but positive feedback, and it's just something you spray on the area, and leave it sit for however long, and I've heard it doesn't require rinsing but I could be wrong.

If you don't have the money for it (it's probably a little on the expensive side), you could always go to a store, and get an empty spray bottle, and fill it up with a sea salt water solution.

    I can haz:

    Left Ear: 5/8" lobe

Right Ear: 5/8" lobe; 14g inner conch

    I wants

Right Ear: 1"(+?) first lobe; 2g(+?) second lobe; 00g inner conch; 10g industrial (x2); 18/16g rook

Left Ear: 1"(+?) first lobe; 2g(+?) second lobe; 00g inner conch; 10g industrial (x2); 18/16g rook

    Facial: 1/2"(+?) septum; 6g center labret; 10g left+right spiderbites

    Other: Surface nape x4
