    White Agate Stone Plugs

Hey, I was wondering for some more info about the white stone agate plugs.

     http://www.bodyartforms.com/productdetails.asp?ProductID=5788

The glass plugs i wanted wont be in for a while so i was looking at alternatives and these are almots completely stocked still in every size. they look fine the picture but i couldnt find much info on Stone jewlerry anywhere online. I am wondering two things:

    1) If someone could post pictures of the plugs in their ears at any gauge, preferablly 00!? Out of the lobe is ifne too i would just like a better idea of how they look especially since white plugs that are actually a nice white tone are hard to come by.

    2) if people could PLEASE post some info about stone? risks? dangers? advantages? disadvantages? can you wear it in a freshly stretched hole? do they irritate some peoples ears as acrylic does?

I forgot to mention also, if anyone knows any other good white plugs on BAF for 10 mm that would be great. My preference would be those plain white silicone plugs but silicone seems to carry too many problems not sure if i wanna risk it

I love stone.  I don't know if it's okay to wear it in a fresh piercing or not.  The only problem I've seen with stone is that, since it occurs in nature, it's never perfect...the coloring can vary slightly from piece to piece.

As long as your piercing is fully healed, and you're not allergic to it, silicone shouldn't be a problem for ya!

really:O thats good to hear, its not heavy or have any strange things to it? yeah that makes sense. Are the colours vibrant though? im basically looking to replace those silicone white plugs, will they look fairly white and not "dirty" if you know what i mean?

I think i just have to experiment i know everyones body reacts differently ive been blessed with no allergies or irritants from many things and very fast healing time for piercings! I thought it was bad though becuase it is porous and can attatch to your skin even when its healed?:S

Stone shouldn't be worn in a fresh piercing or stretch. Despite how it appears, it's a porous material and can trap/harbour bacteria and such.
Don't lie about your stretching history kids, the catbutt always catches up with you eventually. ;)

I love the look of stone but have yet to actually wear any of it (unless you count opalite...but I still can't figure out if it's considered stone or glass). The 0g plugs I got today have a nice weight to them but they certainly aren't heavier than (solid) stainless steel plugs.

Opalite is definitely a glass; but just like goldstone and strawberry quartz, it's mostly marketed with stone for some strange reason. Also, just because it's glass doesn't mean it's safe for a fresh piercing. I doubt the kind of glass used to make opalite and goldstone is the same high-quality stuff that say GWS or GG uses for their jewelry.

I'm a ceramics student so a lot of this comes into play actually. Opalite is made of layered glass with a special type of metal oxide between the layers to get that pearly opal look, and are then melded. Goldstone is made in a similar way using tiny metallic copper crystals. Depending on the reduction/oxidation atmosphere you can get different colors. Some opalite and goldstone are high quality, while others can be economy. I wouldn't risk using it in a fresh stretch, but that's just me. GWS and GG use high quality borosilicate glass which means it resists cracking at rapid temperature change and its nice and strong. Sorry if this is way off topic!

The previous posters are  right, the BAF materials page says stone should only be worn in healed piercings and that it can't be autoclaved.

Opalite can be glass, but there are naturally occuring stones called by the same name. It gets confusing as to which opalites are glass and which are "real", but they both do exist. From my understanding, the milky-coloured stones typically found in jewelry are the glass variety.

it is porous though? if i am ddealing with two porous materials (stone and acrylic) and im settling for stone thinking it would be healthier, maybe it would make more ssense to just go with silicone if its the same risks and safety precautions.

does anyone happen to have any more pictures or those stone plugs i still want to see how vibrant the colour is and what not its kind of hard to tell in the picture thats posted!

Glass, titanium and steel are the materials you can use in a fresh stretch/piercing, so silicone can't be used either. But I'm a little confused. Are you stretching up to 00g and that's why you need new plugs? Acrylic and silicone are definitely no-nos, and since you don't know how your ears will like stone, I would go with glass. You wanted the GWS White colorfronts, right? You could order them directly through GWS, or you could always wait a while longer for them to come back in stock. There's no reason to rush things if you have to risk wearing an inappropriate material in a healing stretch.

yeah im not even close to that yet i was just going to order all of the jewlerry i intend on wearing once i am there, so i know i couldnt have it right away. Yeah i could wait, the alternative wouldnt be wearing innapropriate materials though becuase im not planinng on putting them in a fresh stretch, i wouldnt want to mess up the only earlobes ive got haha. yeah i will have to just wait, i geuss where i was coming from was simply that if i order more at once, i get more free stuff and i jsut prefer to make one large purchase but its not a big deal at all ill jsut order the other stuff and wait til the glass comes in stock.
