    only one ear allergic?

has anyone ever heard of just one ear being allergic to something that the other ear is not? ive had my ears pierced for about 4 months, one ear is completely healed, the other isnt... it always seems to be red a little swollen and a little sore, but there is never any blood or pus i have 6ga stainless steel eyelets with black o-rings in both ears and have used the same aftercare for both ears also thanks

It's entirely possible, I think.  Our bodies are crazy!  You can use/eat/wear something your entire life, and one day just break out from it.  I don't see why one ear could be affected when the other's not.

BUT, are you sure it's not from sleeping on it or something?  Are the eyelets in the fresh piercings or in old piercings near the fresh piercings?  Maybe you're reacting to the o-rings?

I like it a lot because...because it pisses you off!

im pretty sure its not from sleeping on them, because i try to avoid that every night, and always sleep and wake up in the same position... and those are my only piercings, one 6ga eyelet in each lobe

Personally, I would get some single-flared glass plugs (BAF sells some great ones) and try using clear o-rings. It's hard to say why only one ear would act up, but if I were you I would try changing jewelry to see if that helps.

    Oh you pretty things
don't you know you're driving your
    mamas and papas insane?

You do move at night changing positions and you cannot control that in your sleep, it is natures way of preventing bed sores.  So you could very well be sleeping on your ears.

I never take myself too seriously...

I know plenty of people who hit the bed and never move. Not everyone moves.

    Re: only one ear allergic?

I don't think your allergic, bc my body does the same thing sometimes. Piercings on the right side of my body always have a harder time healing and generally keliod when piercings on my left side have no problem. And I sleep on my left side more.
1.5" lobes, 4g conches (punched at 4g stretched to 2g) , 2g nostrils (stretched from 8g piercings), 18g high nostrils,
and chances are i keliod more then you

    Re: only one ear allergic?

When I was a teenager, my ears were allergic to every kind of metal I tried to wear (besides titanium), but I was always able to wear anything I wanted in my nostril piercing (even really cheap metal). On the same note, I would always break out in a rash if I wore necklaces, but bracelets and rings never bothered me. Luckily, my metal allergies have all but subsided with age.

I wouldn't be surprised if some parts of your body are more sensitive than others, but you may want to experiment with different materials (such as Ti) to be sure. Hopefully its just a random occurrence...metal allergies really limit your jewelry options :(

    Retired: scaffold, navel

    Planned: daith, various microdermals,

yeah, i actually did buy a pair of no-flare pyrex eyelets with clear o-rings and it did seem to make my ear feel and look better, but gave my other ear have 'wet-ear' so i took them out of both sides and put the ss eyelets back in... ill try keeping the pyrex eyelet in the problem ear longer than just a few days this time and see if that helps out...
    thanks a lot guys :)

Both my friends and i peirced our ears together, All three of us have one problimatical lobe and the other angelic. Could this also be cause by an infection or too quick of a stretch? I believe that the recommended time before streching is 6 months. Then gauge up in intervals of months. But then again not many people play by those rules anymore.

Regardless baby your ear, try to do sea salt soaks once or twice a day, it helped me out. You can pick up the sea salt at your local grocery store for around a buck or two, well worth the money the container is huge.

I'm currently learning a bit about oils to sooth the ear, if you need more info just let me know.

Oh and one last thing, The instructions for the sea salt

!) 1 teaspoon of the sea salt

    2) pour it into an 8 ounce cup and mix it up ( somtimes i add a little more )

    3) then soak your ear with it. ( any method you like. You could just use the cup)

Don't forget, too much sea salt is bad for your lobes!

    El 2g lobes
    Bear ears =)

I do custom art too! If you want anything done let me know!

    Re: only one ear allergic?

That is WAY too much salt for 8oz of water.

Try 1/4 tsp. of non-iodized sea salt to 8 ounces of water.

Also rinse off your lobies when the SSS is done, the extra salt still on your ear can irritate the lobe.
