MichaelWong:wats the exact procedure ur doing?
Not sure who this is directed at but I'll go ahead and answer ;D...
My lobes are currently at 4g and while I'd eventually like to get up to 2g, for now I just really want to be able to wear my awesome DF opalite plugs that I got from BAF. I've tried taping SF stainless steel plugs and the tape just seems really hard to work with. I have to cut it to fit the plug and this is surprisingly difficult; the tape has a tendency to stick to itself (which is good for making it stay on the plug, not so good when trying to handle it). Also it feels like it bunches up when I try to put the plug in, despite plenty of oil and "ready" lobes. Michael, you mentioned that taping at 2g was difficult, was this due to the smaller size of the plug?
yep i was askin u :p
wat i usually do to get rid of some of the excess static is that i hold it straight up, then run my fingers through it a few times. is the tape u have 1/2" in width? the taping at 2g was only hard because i had no idea how to do it correctly and had no experience with it
my taping procedure involves washing my hands with soap, so my hands are dried out from the chemicals in the soap and such. dry plug and dry tape.
i then cut my tape(i have my own method of measuring which i wont go into detail) but i have no idea how people manage to tape 1 layer of tape at a time, i find that near impossible to wrap and oil up. my tape overlaps at least once(usually a few times)
after measuring and cutting, i removes the static from the tape, and make sure the edges are straight, i then wrap it tightly around the plug. i then drop a drop or two of oil(in my case vit. E) i spin the plug in my fingers squeezing tightly to remove air bubbles numerous times. add more oil. repeat. till the tape is clearish and all bubbles are squeezed out of the tape.(i spin the plug in the direction i applied the tape, ie counterclokcwise etc) this step usually involves sore fingers from squeezing so hard.
voila.i then oil up my ear, and stick in the taped plug, if its too tight i peel a bit off and cut it. if its too loose, i add on some more tape to the existing amount. and the next day when i add more tape to the plug, i either remove the old one and reapply again, or i just add onto the existing. i usually only remove it if the tape is a bit crooked, or if the tape becomes uneven in my ear.
and i think the bunching up may be from the tape not being on tight enough, squeezing out the air bubbles should help
feel free to ask anythign else if i can help out
