    Piercing Poindexter

Ok, so after 4 weeks my piercing didnt hurt, and there were no crusties etc, so i decided to stretch from my first piercing (14g) to 12g, using an acrylic taper and acrylic plug, i washed the pieces in warm soapy antbacterial water, then stretched my ear (it felt a bit warm when i put the taper in, but after that i felt nothing) then i put my plug in. Im worried that this is gonna harvest infection...? is it ok to quickly take the plug out now, clean it then re-insert to double check?

Oh btw, i still clean twice daily (morning and evening) all i used to do (i had a cbr) was wash my hands in soapy water, then rub my wet hands onto the ring and move the ring through my ear, but i cant do this with a plug due to the O rings at either end, and i dont know if its a good idea to take the plug out, so what should i do?

Yeah, since it's acrylic and your piercing was probably not healed enough to stretch, you're probably harboring a ton of bacteria. I would take it out, put back in 14g (steel/titaniu/glass) and don't stretch for at least 6 months.

Also, you shouldn't be moving fresh piercings and stretches around while they heal.

Yeah, i guess i took the whole 'listen to your body' route, since i had no crusties, no itching, redness or any pain when washing. so today i just ordered a titanium plug off teh interwebz. will this be much better?. in the meantime how should i clean the plug, i was thinking i take it out, soak it in soapy antibacterial water, then put it back in twice a day. would this be ok?

"Listen to your body" is most effectively utilized by people with experience in healing piercings and in stretching, otherwise it's very likely you won't know what you're listening FOR and you'll still make mistakes. When you're inexperienced, it's best to wait the minimum recommended time (MUCH longer than 4 weeks) and then start listening. At the very least, educate yourself as much as possible before deviating from suggested minimum wait times.

Honestly, before you ever started stretching you should have been aware of two very basic facts - that stretching a new (and yes, 4 weeks in is still very new) piercing is not smart, and that you do not wear acrylic in a fresh piercing or fresh stretch.  The fact that you did both of those means you need to put your original piercing jewelry back in, back off, wait, and educate yourself. Reading these boards and the stretched community on Livejournal will be a huge help for you.

I agree. Just because it looks healed on the outside doesn't mean the tender skin under the surface is ready to be messed with yet. Put in some steel plugs and chill for a couple months. It'll be worth it.
I like it a lot because...because it pisses you off!
