Somehow, Dandy, you made me love you. :)

I don't agree with keeping the blowouts, but I don't know much about them (hope not to!). All I can say is that I'm happy I got rid of my scar tissue and catbutt when I did, so that I don't worry when I wanna go naked.

I think what Dandy and myself are getting at is that the human body does not always fall into black and white categories when it comes to healing and skin elasticity there is some grey area.  My personal experience with blowouts is that they do not stay all blimpy and inflammed for very long after a difficult streatch.  For me they tend to flatten out and fade to my natural skin tone.  I only have what would be considered a "blowout" remaining on my right ear and all it really looks like is extra skin tissue on the back of the lobe when the jewelry is removed.  Nothing too gnarly or uneven at all.  Ill try to borrow a camera and get some pics up so you guys can get a better idea of what i mean.  Like Dandy I too am at 22mm (7/8") and have taken a considerable amount of time to get there (started streatching at 16 and i'm 24 now) never rushing or skipping gauges aswell as always maintaining cleanliness and moisturizing and aside from the extra skin i exibit no signs of thinning or "catbutt" effect at all.

I am going through the same thing. I talked to my piercer and he let me know that if we cut it, there is a possibility of more scar tissue growing back. We decided that I’ll try oil massages for about a year and after that, if there was no improvement, we’d cut it. As of now, I’ve seen some results. The scar tissue is softening up a tiny bit, but it’s still protruding enough to “eat” DF plugs. I’m trying to be patient on this, and pretty sure it’ll pay off. Keep us updated on your healing process; I’m curious how it will go.

oh hey one more question.ive tried downsizing but it dosent seem to work cus ive had the blowouts since 3/4 and im at 1 1/4 now and barley taking care of it.. i know stupid idea...well the blowout is stretched and been stretched for a while and is healed that that makes it like a million times harder to fix on its on...right?! or i think its there forever now? so yeah my best bet is getting it cut?

There is that possibility. But remember, it might not happen.

I'm a slight perfectionist, though I understand the balance of both perfection and imperfection; for what we are not makes us what we are, and vice versa.

Hey mate i got some news for you, cant say it will work for you but anyway my blowouts were huge at 20mm, shrunk when i stretched to 22mm and now almost dissapeared now that im at 25mm!

It seems if you let the blowout heal completely(i waited about 4 months after blowout) then stretch more there is a *chance* it will be 'absorbed'.

I posted pics of my blowouts last week which was before my 22mm to 25mm stretch (i taped it slowly btw) so ill get some new ones up soon to show you how much smaller it is! :) - seriously no longer very noticeable unless your looking at them really close.

    Totally agree on this!

I have BIG blow-outs as well.

I had my ears scalpelled from 1" to 1-1/2" and now I'm so glad I never cut the bow-outs off.

    They make my lobes thicker.

And you don't see anythem of them when I wear plugs or eyelets, only when I remove my jewelery.

    Dandy:
No hard feelings though, i care about my ears and i wish i had read more before causing my blowout via double flared jewelery, but taking over 1 and a half years to get to 22mm is hardly reckless.

dude thats massivly quick btw. you seem happy with your ears so thats all good i suppose. but ive been stretching for about 2 years and im at 12mm, but admitedly  thats quite slow. sorry maybe im reading wrong and you were scalpelled or piercer initially at a larger guage? up at those larger sizes you should be leaving alot of time between sizes.

you also said you went from 22mm to 25mm..but its ok because you did it slowly with a taper? you shouldnt be wearing a taper for long periods, and 3mm is a huge jump.

     seems quite reckless to me..

Re: getting my blowouts cut off soon...what to expect?

Pierced at 14g, so a little bigger than average, 14g to 22mm in 1 and a half years I believe is an average pace at most.

To go from 22mm to 25mm I used tape, not tapers.

Would never think of tapering an ear 3mm, thats waaaaaay to much :P

I added one layer of tape every 4 days untill my ear/plug was at 25mm, worked fine and absorbed the majority of my blowout.

Certainly not reckless :) No pain or stress involved.
