    Some Taping Questions

Hi guys, I hope this isn't the 9474854th taping post you've seen, but I looked around the forums a little bit and didn't see anything that exactly answered my questions.

Anyway, I just started taping from 0g to 00g (using PTFE). This is the first time I've ever used tape (bad, I know >.>), so I need a few pointers.

First off, I usually sleep with my plugs out, and I'm wondering if that'll just undo all the progress I make during the day? I've just been sleeping with them in and only removing them when I re-oil, which is about twice a day.

Second, should I be doing sea salt soaks during this time? It's not nearly as traumatic as using tapers is so I'm wondering if soaking is necessary. Also, I usually wash my lobes once a day/every other day with plain ol' antibacterial soap when stretching, but should I when taping?

And finally, do you recommend using an all new length of tape every time you add layers, or just add new tape to the tape already on the plug?

Thanks guys, and sorry for all the questions, haha :)

    Re: Some Taping Questions

Another taping convert, excellent :D Much nicer on the lobes imo. I stopped using tapers after 8g.

During the time you're taping you should sleep with your plugs in, you're correct in saying you'll basically be losing some progress when you sleep with them out.

No, sea salt soaks probably aren't the best thing to do during taping. The tape already dries your ears out, and the addition of salt water will destroy any moisture you have in your lobes. Definitely SSS when the taping is complete and you're at a 00, but not during.

Usually when taping I wash mine with Satin every other day. Definitely a good idea.

I've seen most people here suggest replacing the tape whenever you add layers, but in my experience there hasn't been any difference between that and just adding new layers to old layers. It is probably better to replace all the tape though, just for hygienic purposes.

    Happy taping :)

Ive only taped my septum, but I change the layers at least once a week... I dont want bacteria thats gotten in there to irritate my piercing. And make sure to use TONS of oil on the tape and the hole before inserting the jewelry.

    Im just that awesome!

Thanks :) And haha, I know, I've been going nuts with the oil. I've made quite an impressive mess.
