So my concern is how do I stretch my septum if my piercing is way up there. I can't imagine how I would with just a regular taper.

 When I first started streching mine I would just wait until I could slip the next size in. Now I use tape, because its pushing up on my cartilage and it hurts if I dont do it as gradual as possible.

I forgot to add that my septum doesn't droop a lot lower than the nasal walls if you get what I mean.

 When I first had it done it was a few mm into my nose, if you can reach the jewelry you can stretch it... 

I just wait until the next size fits in. I had mine up to 12g but now it is back to 16g

hmm I was actually thinking of that, just slipping in the next size, my goal size is actually 12g. I know, why didn't I just get pierced at 12g, but the guy at the counter said that my sweet spot is very tiny and if I got pierced at 12g it MIGHT scrape the cartilage, but when it was my turn to get pierced, my piercer said I have a very generous amount of sweet spot, but I was too in the moment to ask if 12g was possible. Nevertheless, best piercing experience ever. Kinda rambling, but thanks for the reassurance that I can possibly just slip in the next size when I am ready to go up.

I've stretched up to 8g by just slipping in the next size septum bullet, supplemented by a little tape. I stopped here because it was too uncomfortable to continue with the pressure on my cartilage. You'll know it when you feel it.

 That was the same point I HAD to use tape or I just couldnt handle it! But bullets are GREAT for taping!

 I always used tapers. If you only want to go to 12ga, though, it might be easier to just play with the jewelry for a month or two; you should be able to slip the next size right in after that.

The bigger jewelry slipped in for me for the most part, but I used tapers for 12g and 6g (where I am currently).

 i have a similar problem as u do. my piercing is up there, hard to reach with a taper if i tried, and definietly hard to tape with plugs.

 

for 14 to 8g i used pinchers. my 8g pincher stretch was way too painful(had my piercer do it, since the first time i did it i used a taper, and couldnt get the plug through)6g to 2g have been super easy and painless with captives which i tape up. i insert the not taped ends into my nose. when the taped area is near my septum i pull downish on the captive to "stretch" the piercing out so there is room for the tape to go in. taping my septum has been 1-2 days max for me

 

people here may not reccomend pinchers for stretching since they say it can be uneven, and the wearble area is not consistent, but i have had no problem using them in my septum, then switching to consistently sized jewelry within the next day or hours later on
