Can you cut off the flare of a silicone eyelet, and still be able to use them? I bought some kaos eyelets thatare way to long. If I cut off the flares will they become "weaker". Do I use an o-ring on the back?

i've done it before. it was a little hard to do and a bit hard to wear, but it was fine. and i didn't wear an o-ring with them because it seemed too fiddly to try.

I've done that to a couple pairs. It won't make them any less sturdy, although getting an o-ring on the back is tricky. Still, it helped me get the 4g eyelets in my ears (my lobes refuse to take the flares on them).

but i have heard of people trimming the flares on earskins for septum use

i dont own any kaos eyelets so i cant say how sturdy they are, but cutting the flares off on earskins definitely wont work seeing as theyre not even super sturdy with flares on

Ok, so I have these 4g  eyelets. I was thinking of cutting off the flares, putting on the o-ring and insert from the back. That way I won't have to use the o-ring while it's inside.

Good to hear it doesn't hurt the sturdiness.

iirc that was in regards to earskins rather than about eyelets.  

to the OP, just be careful.  The cut edges can be kind of sharp.  We can only hope they will make NF solid plugs some day...

 I did it, and it went fine. It was very difficult trying to fold the little thing, but it goes in easily now.
