You'll have to ask your piercer if you're suited, your cartilage may be very close to the bottom of your nose. Most people have a 'sweet spot' which is fleshy tissue underneath the cartilage, this is where the septum piercing is usually placed.

From my experience as you stretch the jewelry can push up on it and cause pain. I found it to be highly uncomfortable and had to downsize.

    Im just that awesome!

My cartilage eroded as a result of stretching. There is a prominent dent... which you should take into consideration.

stretching is definitely pretty permanent as you get large. i've got a very large septum piercing (9/16"[14.3mm]) and the dent in my "hard" cartilage is almost a complete "C" shape. it feels pretty interesting though, and i don't mind at all. as stretching began to get into that area though, it was very painful and touchy during healing. stretching itself wasn't that bad, it was just so tender a few days later and for a while. any tiny whack to my face was enough to make me stop whatever i was doing and just clench in pain.

It hurt me a lot... to the point that I downsized because I couldnt take it after a week. The stretch to a 6g was easy as pie it was just not fun once the jewelry was in...

I think the part that hurt the most for me was the first beginning stages of hitting the cartilage for the first time. After that, it was a breeze.
