Learning the error of my ways.

I am new to the site and have learned so much already, I thank you all.  Mostly that I have done some things wrong in the past; now I looking for advice on how to fix my ways.  I have been wearing 2g for several years and decided to go further, 0g is where I want to be. The problem lies in how I got there originally.  It wasn’t fast; but it was with horn spirals.  I pushed them through slowly, a little more every day.  I used olive oil to lube and massaged my lobes, the advice form the piercer who sold me the jewelry, he had fat lobes hanging to his shoulders = trust?  Recently I started the same process with a 00g spiral thinking I would not go all the way.  After finding this site I realize this was wrong and my holes are not in the best shape.

    My question:

1.If I downsize can I reverse some damage, how far, how long before I can stretch again?

2.I love organic, how long does the steel need to stay after a stretch before I can switch to organic?

    1. It depends upon your ears. Downsizing will thicken up your lobes, but the damage may or may not get better. Stretching shouldn't include exaggerated pain, so listen to your body. Also, you might want to try stretching with ptfe tape, gradually. Using tape, you can control how much you stretch each time, and it's cheaper and easier to manage.
    2. Organics should only be worn in completely healed piercings. For smaller sizes, I'd say at least a month, but then again it's different for everyone.

Downsizing will certainly help. If you're willing to make the time commitment, take them out entirely for a month or two and massage them daily (or even twice daily) with vitamin e oil to help reduce any scar tissue you may have formed. You can easily do this while watching tv, which makes it a little less monotonous. Then re-stretch, slowly, with good quality tapers and titanium or glass sf plugs. There is a stretching timeline guide here.

Personally, I think a month is a little excessive to wait. If you've stretched properly (which should not hurt, by the way, you may feel a tightness or some heat but no pain) then you should be fine to wear organics in a week or two. None of these guidelines are set in stone; they're guides and you need to pay attention to what's going on with your ears. Take the organics out once a day and oil them up. If the organics are sticking to your ears or if you're experiencing any discomfort or odd feelings, remove them for glass or titanium/steel. Be careful with cheaper economy steel plugs, they contain nickel which a large percentage of people are sensitive to; if you experience swelling, itching, soreness, redness, or weeping while wearing steel, switch it out for glass or titanium.

     Good luck.

Downsizing is one of the best things to do to a unhealthy lobeSleep. I'd say keep the steel in for about 2 months or to be on the safe side. Something that helped me was to drench them in jojoba oil every 4 hours. They seemed to heal faster. Also, Sea Salt Soaks are like heaven in a shot glass,so you should try those.
