    Used wood jewellery.

    The bodyartforms care sheet says that wood can't be autoclaved or sterilised, so is there any way to make secondhand stuff safe to wear, or is it not worth bothering?

    I'm not especially into the idea of jewellery that isn't totally new anyways, but I was wanting to get some cheap organics to make sure I don't have any horrible reactions before I invest in anything more expensive. However, I would rather spend more straight off than have someone's rank ear germs all over me.

    I wouldn't buy used wood jewelry....very very porous...like bacteria breeding grounds...icky

    I knew there was a reason I never liked the concept of secondhand.

    I don't understand why that can be compared to having unprotected sex. I mean, all that's on the plugs would be skin cells and oil, right? Same as if you had been wearing them for a while? And that still doesn't answer my "what could happen" question. I seriously doubt you can get an STD from wearing second-hand ear jewelry.

    Unless of course, the original owner bled on them. or their partner jizzed on them. or whatever. You never know what has happened to something that was in someone else's possession prior to you owning them.

    I would be more concerned about catching hepatitis than HIV. HIV is pretty fragile outside of the body. Depending on the type of hep, it can live outside of the body for days to months. And an open wound wouldn't have to be on your lobe. It could be on your hands (I'm thinking paper cut or torn cuticle) or you could touch it with your hands then touch a cut elsewhere on your body.
