recently i have been considering a new piercing. i narrowed it down to either a nostril hoop, or a 16g septum. and septum won. now all i have to do is wait to get paid (over a week away). but i cannot wait. i love being pierced!!

 Out of curiosity, why so small?

i like to keep it small and simple. i have a very feminine face and i dont want to look like a "dike".  not that i have any problem with a more masuline look, but it is just not what works for me

Clearly you should focus on being able to spell, rather than worrying about being percieved as homosexual.

my big concern is how difficult it will be to heal at that size.  What type of jewelry do you plan on using initially?

2 girls who i find to be most feminine have large seputms, both at 0g i think, and they're definately not perceived as homosexual, as much as i would totally be there if they were.

i'm with quinn, 16g is too small, get it pierced at 14g or bigger and if you do hate it that much downsize after it's healed.

first, i feel that i need to defend myself. i already said that i do not have a problem with the more masculine look on females. i happen to be bisexual and have dated more girls than guys and they were usually more "masculine" i actually like it. but like a already said, it doesnt work for me, and in my opinion, larger gauged piercings do take away from a feminine face. appologies for the misunderstanding.

 on jewlery: i am still looking all over the place but what i have liked the most so far is a small horseshoe. i dont know too much about healing...got any suggustions?

Initially go with either a retainer or a small circular.

Now that the talk of sex has gone full circle, can we please just discuss this septum.  

 dont feel like you have to defend yourself.  just know that people will have their own opinions.  I agree with Andrea, heal at 14g then downsize.

i can handle a 14. 16 just happened to be what came to mind first.

i want to go into this prepared. what do you know about cleaning and healing time?

I got my septum pierced at 16g back in the septum club thing of 2007 and it healed fine. I have seen many septums at 16g that also healed with no problems. I chose 16g because I felt it suited my face best, especially because I already have several facial piercings and didn't want it to overwhelm (or be too visible to small children looking up at a flipped up piercing). That being said, I do wish now that I had pierced it at around 10g (especially after seeing how great it looks on Jess in some pics she posted). It is a personal descision and one thing I suggest is to "try on" the piercing at several gauges by hanging a circular barbell or captive from your septum to help you decide.
