    ^ great source of info

I had dreads for about 3 months but had to get rid of them because my dad didn't approve. I loved them and want them again soon as I'm out on my own. Don't go to a salon to get them done, it'll cost way more than its worth. All you need is someone to help you and a flea comb if you go the backcombing route, or you can go natural and just totally stop detangling your hair but still washing. If you have black hair, bleach it first to get it blonde. Also don't listen to the big companies that say to use wax, wax hinders the locking process in the long run. I'm speaking from experience here, I tried it at first and just gooped up everything, I only used a fingernail full too. You can start them if your hair is at least 5-6 inches long, but they will shrink when you put them in. My hair was past my waist when I started and it ended up past my armpits after they were done. I backcombed them myself but wish I had someome to help with the back...

HTH and if you have any more questions PM me.

Will knit/crochet for pretties. Seriously, try me. I like shiny ^.^

You can also do a search of these forums, there's a couple of threads floating about with other peoples' experiences Smile

    Re: dreadlock help

When I put dreadlocks in my hair, I used Knottyboy.com and their FAQ page for all the how-to questions I had.

I would suggest doing them yourself (with help from friends or family).  I don't know anyone who's been to a salon to get them, but they are really easy to do (just time consuming) so I don't think it's worth it to pay someone (especially if they don't have experience with dreads...)

I agree with one of the other replies to this post that you should dye your hair first.  Not only are dreads tricky to dye, the bleaching agent in the dye will dry out your hair, thus making it easier to dread.

    Good luck!!
