    High Nostrils

So, my newest idea that I'm toying with is to get high nostrils (both) in 18g, or maybe even 20g.  I have experience with piercings (including septum, so the nose is nothing new to me), tattoos, and stretching, so I'm not totally foreign to the subject of body modification.  However, I have searched far and wide for information about high nostrils and have found next to nothing.  I just want some information from people with experience with them before I go talk to a piercer.

Also, I have a (conservative) job so I'm hoping to find someone willing to use glass retainers.  From the info that I've found, some people prefer a labret stud over a nose screw.  Does anyone have a preference?  And finally, does anyone here with the piercing(s) suffer from allergies or sinus problems (both before and after the piercing)?

    Thanks!

Even though you didn't ask. I know of 2 people that absolutely could NOT heal high nostrils.

I don't have high nostrils, but I imagine getting a labret stud in wouldn't exactly be easy. I'm under the impression that most people wear nose screws in them.

And as far as your job goes, my work specifies no facial piercings whatsoever. There is a girl who has been warned repeatedly because she wears a glass retainer that has a round (ball) flare on the end, and the manager would prefer it was at least flat if it must be there, and she is probably going to be put on notice soon because of it. FWIW, think about how much wiggle room you have in that policy. I love high nostrils.

Glass nostril screws are most likely NOT going to work. Even when healed they most likely won't work. That part of your nose is much thicker than a typical nostril piercing.  A 5/16" length is fairly common for a "standard" nostril piercing. A 7/16" or 1/2" is more the norm for a high nostril. Glass nostril screws do not have that long of a wearable area. A lot of these piercings are done using Neometal 18g threadless labrets.

And finally, this piercing won't affect allergies or sinus issues. If you have them, you will have them. If you don't have them, this won't give them to you.

    Re: High Nostrils

I have had high nostrils, i kept them for about 8 months. they were pierced with 18g neometal, and it worked pretty well. they would NOT heal, even after we took one out and repierced it. everytime i would travel or even wash my face they would get big red bumps on them. so i eventually retired them, i cried lol!! i was really sad to see them go but they were always angry and sore. louie had pretty luck with his since his nose is alot bigger then mine but even after about 6 months with his he retired them bc of the same reason.

Kathryn, Do you have any details on this? Had the people had any problems with other piercings?  I'm not too worried about not healing them, as I generally heal SUPER fast (and permanently.. my body is strange) and because I'd probably consider it worth the "risk", but I am really interested in the details so I can take them into consideration!

And Rick, thanks for the advice.  Like I said, I can't find shit online about high nostrils so your info really helped.  I have never heard of the first place you mentioned (I will look them up), but I have a friend who has been going to piercing experience for YEARS and has had great results.  I've heard nothing but good things about Brian.  In fact, the guy who pierced my septum (when I lived in Seattle) was a friend of his.

    Re: High Nostrils

i heal extremely fast and very well. like i have about 20% coverage of tattoos and have never had to get touch ups on any of it, including my feet. and i could not heal my high nostrils. they are a very cute piercing but i think they are more problematic then cheek piercings.

Just bumps and the likes like Kaitlin said for hers. I dunno about the 2nd person because I can't recall who it was, but I just know they would not heal. As far as other piercings, I have no idea. It's not really something I discuss with people, haha.

    Re: High Nostrils

I just have a regular nostril piercing, but while it was healing I also had a big bump on the inside of my nose.  If you think about it, the nostril narrows quite a bit the higher you go.  So if there is a big bump high up in the nose, it could be bothersome for breathing.  Additionally, I know when I have a cold or my allergies are acting up, I always have to remove my jewellery before I blow my nose so crap doesn't get caught on the jewellery and harden making it impossible to remove later.

I don't want to go to work tomorrow...

    Re: High Nostrils

I don't think high nostrils are impossible to heal, but they are long and difficult to heal. If you have the patience (one of my navels took a year and a half to heal, I had a bump on and off on my nostril for a year and my nipples are taking well over a year), then go for it. You may have issues, but if you really want it, it will be worth the wait in the end. Waiting 6-8 months and giving up may not be long enough for them to settle. If you're up for the long and possibly angry proces, go on and get it!

    Current: 13mm lobes, double nostrils, 7/16 septum, 6 gauge tongue, 14g nipples, 14g navels x 3, 12g VCH, 4 gauge inner labias

Retired: 16 gauge tongue web, second lobe holes
