    Segment Ring Hell ...

Greetings all! Long time no see!

Here's my story ... I hope some of you cool folks can help me.

Back in 2006 I had my septum pierced (one of my first piercings) at 14g. It was HELL but I dealt *smile* At the time they put in a curved barbell which I liked. After a while I really didn't like worrying about how the barbell would shift in my nose sometimes so I think I might have even posted that here ... someone recommended o-rings on each side to keep it in place. I tried that but after a while the o-rings stretch and I had to replace them. This got annoying also. During this period I had stretched my ears to 4g myself and put in some beautiful segment rings. They look great and I don't have to worry about them spinning or looking lopsided cause well its one big circle.  *smile* At that size too the seam is invisible and thats really what attracted me to it.

So I decided maybe a segment ring for my septum would be cool too.

I tried a 14g segment ring and that was hell. By the time I opened it and get the segment out ... I had opened it a bit too much. I got the segment back in but it was loose so it kinda flopped ... you know what I mean? I decided to go to a piercing place and have them do it. I also figured maybe 14g was just too small for a segment ring and that I'd have them stretch me up to 12g so that why I'd be able to wear a thicker jewelry. They ordered the new jewelry forme and told me they'd call when it came in and I could just come in and they'd do it for me.

    I went in today.

The experience was really really bad. The 12g taper went through fine but the end of the jewelry for some reason was slightly larger than 12g. I think the way the segment rings are ... the outer edge is slightly larger? She shoved that taper through my nose like 3 times ... and then decided to use a 10g taper .. (my god) so that the jewelry would go through. That stretch was AWFUL and painful and I think I screamed so loud that patrons in the waiting room ran out. The jewelry went through ... no problem. She put the segment in and I just wanted to go home and soak my nose in some ice ... It looked fine when I checked it out in the mirror in my car.

It's been a few hours now and the pain has kinda stopped but when I looked in the mirror I noticed the segment is FLOPPY. Basically that the same thing happened when I tried it ... its hanging there ... and it looks really silly. There is no way I'm taking this jewelry out right now ... and I don't have anything to put in its place anyway. My septum needs a rest but at the same time this loose segment hanging looks really really dumb.

Is there a way to tighten or squeeze the jewelry closed so the segment stays in place seamlessly? Or is it impossible to do? I don't want to damage the jewelry by squeezing it ...  I also don't want to cause anymore trauma to my nose right now.

What does anyone recommend? I could really use some advice. Thanks in advance.

    Re: Segment Ring Hell ...

put the segment part thru the fistula.  then you won't see any floppiness

    Re: Segment Ring Hell ...

I'm worried about the segment getting stuck somehow because it moves ... i don't want it to scratch the inside because it's not set inside the ring securely ...

go to a different shop and have them tighten the ring. i had smaller guage segment rings in my ears for awhile, and yes you can get them seamless. they just need to be bent inwards first and have the segment part inserted using ring opening pliers so that they pressure is enough to keep it snug
