DRY SKIN & Retainers for the monroe.......

i've only had it pierced for a week and every thing is fine..... but i started to notice i have REALLY DRY NASTY skin around it... i'm not sure if it's because of the listerine i've been using to wash my mouth out?? i went out and bought non-alcohol listerine so that sound be fine right? But why is it really dry on the outside?i also bought emu oil off of here... should that help? i just want to know what made it dry

also what do you recommend for me to cover my piercing with while i work? i only work 4-6 hour shifts............ can i change out the piercing already? it's only been a week. or get a clear ball to wear? can i even find a clear ball that would fit on a metal bar?

    any help appreciated. thanks

emu oil should help with the dryness.  good call getting the alcohol free mouthwash.  you should not be changing the jewelry just yet.  but if you have to a clear ball should help a bit.

Yup. Alcohol = bad. H2Ocean makes a mouth wash for oral piercings that helped my philtrum heal quite nicely. But regular sea salt soaks are obviously good too. (And cheaper.) And you probably shouldn't even think about changing the jewelry until after a few months. If you *need* it switched out before then, get your piercer to do it.

I tend to use the same soap I use on that part of my body for new piercings... And either Satin or Crazy Chamelion if its irritated, or overly crusty... This way I know the soap Im using wont over dry my new piercing...

I don't have any experience with Crazy Chameleon, but I just got some Satin and I'm in love.  I often have dry lobes from stretching my piercings and after I wash with it, they're so nice and soft. :3

well i ordered some emu oil, all the reviews i read, not one bad one. it needs to come in already.. it's so gross and nasty, booo. so much for a cute little piercing, hahah

also.... how do i use sea salt soaks? like how much salt and water do i use? and do i just wash around it regularly?

8oz warm water and 1/4tsp salt.  make sure the salt is completely disolved in the water and soak your piercing in the salt solution for 5-15 minutes 2-3x a day.

Re: DRY SKIN & Retainers for the monroe.......

so i didnt realize how annoying the retainer would be.. and it's not even the right one.. my piercer put in a belly button one because it has a longer post.........weird.. but just today when i was cleaning my piercing.... the stupid thing came out and i tried to put it back in from the inside of my mouth and it would NOT budge... so i just stuck it in from the front.. i dont know if i was suppose to do that or not..

but i've come to realize that instead of wearing a retainer... so it okay for me just to take it out completely? like i said before i only work 4 hour shifts on the weeksday and about 6 on the weekends......will it close up? it is still fairly new.....?

not after only a week or so.  and you need to put the retainer or jewelry in properly if you want your gums and teeth to stay healthy

Re: DRY SKIN & Retainers for the monroe.......

so since i stuck my it in thru the front... so you think thats okay?

i haven't been having problems with it lately.. just i'm afraid that i shouldn't have put it in thru the front, but it really wouldn't budge from the inside of my mouth
