    Apprenticeship.

Hi!  Wow, haven't been here in a while.  Hello everyone :P

So, I want to become a professional piercer.  I found a school that has a 2 week program about piercing.  After you pass the course you get a license and all that good stuff.  But before the school thing, I wanted to try and apprentice at any local shop.  Thing is, idk what to say to the people at the shops.  I don't know how I should dress, nor what I should say.  I don't care if I have to start off cleaning toilets-  I'll do it with a smile.  I just want to find a way into the whole piercing business.

I'm not exactly sure I worded this right (kinda feel nervous asking all of you), but hopefully you understand what I'm trying to do.  Advice?  :D  Heh.

    Re: Apprenticeship.

From what I understand piercing schools are a joke...

As far as getting an apprenticeship, get to know te people at the shop, and bse where they stand with the idea after a while... Also take some classes, blood born pathogens, cpr ect. And last but not keast, if you wanna own a shop get a buisness degree, it will help you, and also give you a fall back option.

Do you have any advice on how I should dress or what I should say?

    Re: Apprenticeship.

Learn, learn, learn as much as possible now. Cruise forums, join IAM/BME, learn metal types, etc. Take blood borne pathogens, and cpr/first aid. Go to APP conference and take classes (learn MOAR) and talk to everyone, the person that you talk to for five minutes could later offer you a counter job. You never know.

As for when you talk to shop owners, really know your information. Dress business professional, as you would for any interview, and bring a resume along with you. Say you are looking for a counter job with eventual hopes of an apprenticeship. But it is a long path to even obtain an apprenticeship, usually a year or so of working the front desk first.

Thanks so much for the awesome advice.  Definitely going to listen to the both of you.

Any idea where I can take these blood classes?

    Re: Apprenticeship.

The Red Cross classes typically are not industry specific and therefore useless for body modification artists. A good place to find them is at tattoo conventions. The APT will sometimes put on BBP classes. Or you can keep your eye on http://www.hlthedu.com/ . I think the site is down right now though.

That's perfect!  I just have to save up enough money. But I'm sure it will be well worth it.

Thanks to all of you who, honestly.
