    Organic navel jewelry?

Is there such a thing? Is this a stupid question? Why?

I'm so curious about this. I've been considering a navel piercing as a point of personal focus, but I *hate* metal. Hate's a strong word. I dislike metal jewelry in my body. Is there any reason why I couldn't have some horn or wood or whatever in there after it heals? I know someone who makes organic plugs and shapes, so I'm sure I could get him to do me a custom piece (although it would be cool to see examples of other ones before I try and explain to him)... Would it be impossible to keep in? Obviously it would need a creative shape (or not; curved talon with o rings?) but are there any other reasons I've never seen any before? Have you seen any? Are there physical limitations? I mean, it seems like sensitive skin but my sensitive skin always does better with natural stuff and if you can wear it up your nose, why not your belly? What do you think?

You would need to heal the piercing with glass, metal, or possibly bioplast prior to wearing organic material. I don't see any reason why you couldn't wear bone or horn after the healing process.

Custom orders are probably best for this type of item and it would probably be much easier if you were planning on ordering somewhat larger gauge jewelry.

I don't know why you haven't seen any either.  There is a lot out there.

Like Axon said, you will need to heal with glass or steel or titanium before switching to organic materials.

OK, I stated in my original post that I would wait until it was healed, let's get that out of the way. So if "there is a lot out there" in the way of organic navel jewelry, could you direct me to any? I would really love to see some. I've found some steel barbells with bone/horn beads, and one CBR made from bone/horn but that isn't what I'm looking for. More wondering why there aren't the variety of interesting shapes and materials you see for other piercings.

    P.S.

Hey quinn- what a totally intelligent, pointed, interesting and helpful response! Thanks, Man. You're clearly the Go-To Guy for information here.

     quinnn is female :)

If you want to wear organics, make sure you get it at a larger size, there will be much more available than smaller sizes. Glass isn't metal, and is excellent for healing as has already been stated.  You can edit your BAF search to only include organics, and it will show everything they have. Check the manufacturers as well, you might be able to contact them on your own or through BAF for custom orders.

I know Kelly had bob's navel jewelry custom made by Aesthetics.  Other than glass curves, I think you would most likely have to have it custom ordered.

    and btw, I'm a chick.

    Re: Organic navel jewelry?

What gauge do you plan to keep your navel at? Mine is at a 4g, and just personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing anything smaller than 10g in bone or horn for fear of it splintering. You'd probably be able to do something in a heavy wood like ebony at a smaller size, and get it made by Jared @ Onetribe or at Aesthetics like Quinnn suggested.

Oh, I dunno, at least a 6g or a 4g. I have a friend that does custom stuff here in Portland for www.mega-robot.com , I'll talk to him about it. Ebony's a good idea, I certainly wouldn't want anything to snap that I paid to be custom made. Thanks for the picture of Bob's belly, that was cool.

And I seriously call everybody 'man'; if 'Go-to Guy' was too masculine I certainly apologize.

Nah, it was calling me "Man" that got me.  You aren't the first who thought I was a guy.

    I  <3 profiles.

I do when I am specifying gender in my reply, and now can we get back on topic?
