I want to get my nostril pierced and I've heard that it is safer if I get a ring first rather than a nose screw. However, I hate the way the ring looks. Does it really matter if I get a ring at first?

The first time I had my nostril pierced, I used a screw. Two days later I ripped it out while drying my face and couldn't get it back in again... and it was a Sunday so I couldn't nip over to my piercer's to have it put back in.  The second time I used a ring, and it's now been fully healed for nearly two years.

 If you think you can remember to be careful with it, a screw is probably fine... just remember they're a pain in the arse to get in and out!

For initial piercing, a nostril screw or well-fitting straight barbell/labret post (possibly Anatometal/IS/Neometal) would be best for healing as motion would be reduced.

My nostril piercings are healed and I personally prefer nostril screws (Gorilla Glass and IS) over Neometal. I change my jewelry fairly often and it's much easier for me to deal with screws than causing irritation by constantly prying apart Neometal labret studs and ends.

 When I got my nostril pierced I got it done with a screw. I had no healing problems with it.

First time around, I had a screw. It was annoying to clean. This time around, I have a ring, and it's also annoying to clean and gets knocked around a lot. I agree with quinnn, get some neometal. I just ordered some and will be heading to my piercer the day it comes in to get it changed. Can't wait.
