Do I need to find a new shop, or is this not as bad as I think?

    First, some background info.
I went there this past Friday to see how much it would be and to see when I could get it done. They told me to come back Tuesday[4-15-08] because that is the only time that the guy that does piercings is there.
I went and first off, I asked the most obvious question...is it going to hurt. and he was like YES, It's going to hurt, ALOT! which made me even more nervous. turns out, he didn't bring the special clamps with him that you use for septum piercings, but he said he could just do it with a receiving tube, then he went back and checked and he said he didn't have any sterilized circular barbells there that were sterile. So, does that mean that three isn't an autoclave?

    wtf.

It was pretty much a horrible experience. I don't think that he was very professional about it. He said he would bring everything with him next week if I wanted to get it done then.
Should I go somewhere else, or is this how piercers usually are? Shouldn't he have tried to make me feel more relaxed, instead of just scaring the shit out of me, cause it was pretty obvious that I was nervous about it.

That guy is only there once a week, cause he moved to another shop in a big city about an hour and a half away, so he only comes in once a week. But I went in Friday, and was told that everything would be ready for me.

I asked if I could get it pierced with a retainer, and he was like You can't pierce something with plastic.
I was like, no a Septum retainer, you know one of those metal ones, kinda u-shaped and they flare out at the ends, he didn't even know what it was.

So, what should I do, find a new place, or am I just so nervous that I'm making something out of nothing?

[I only have my lip pierced, which I did myself, so I was very nervous about the whole thing, and it was made worse while I was there]

Yes find a new shop. There is no reason to feel uncomfortable or to be treated poorly in a shop, and there will be one just as good or better with a better attitude just waiting for you to walk in. Having no jewelry sterilized at the moment does not mean there isn't an autoclave, but the fact that he brings stuff with him to the shop and doesn't know what a septum retainer is are two BIG red flags to me. Don't go back there.

By the way, how old are you? Make sure its legal to even be pierced in your area if you are under 18, because if its not and/or you need parental permission and a shop isn't strict about that you should run far far away.

Yeah, I'm 18, today was my birthday, I went with one of my friends who got a tattoo. So I was wanting to get it pierced as a birthday present to myself.

WOW the ONLY ok thing in that story was the recieving tube.... deff go shop shopping

the pain question... that's alright, my piercer's abit of a hard ass but hella cool once he get's you to the back room...

I asked about about pain for a smiley and he didn't go out of his way to scare me he just told me straight across, that I'd have to hold the forceps holding my top lip perfectly still while he pierced it.

I'm sorry about the bad exp. but atleast he never touched you :)

If you're not 100% comfortable with a piercer or a shop find a new one... Its better to feel comfortable and KNOW everything is held to high standards than go to a shit hole...

I'd say definitely find an other place, I've changed shop for a smaller thing and it turned out to be a great decision. If you're not comfortable there, leave.

Definately, don't go to that shop. Find a piercer that you are comfortable with and one that actually knows his stuff.

Look at the sticky and the top of this forum if you need help on what to look for.

See if you can't find a shop here around your area.

Keep in mind that just because a shop is APP cetified, doesn't mean that it is a reputable one. However, it's a good place to start.
