So, from what I understand, saline/sea salt is used for soaks and sprays. Does anyone know why sodium chloride is specified throughout the industry?

 I understand why heat is important as it increases blood flow to the specified area. but why the saline/sea salt?

 I understand you dont want to use conventionaly healing ointments and what not, because they tend to kill healing tissue which is not what we want.

 Anyone with a not so simple answer? How does the salt facilitate healing better than normal warm water?

its simple, its what your body uses. your body naturally has a salt content (usually equal to 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon per cup of water, or the same as saline)

the salt draws out impurites

just like when you salt pack meat for storage... the dry salt draws out the water from the meat... but in the case of piercings, the salt draws out impurites which often are or carry bacteria on them, while leaving the healthy tissue and nourshing it through osmosis  (or mitosis or meosis... i can never remember which)

T-Y, T-Y, lol i was always a lil hazy on those parts of biology, hehe... well the process where the salt level equalize between the cell plasma and ouside the cell membrane was what i was going for... So yes Osmosis...gald to know I got it the first time around...

Going off on what WastedAngel said, I prefer soaks over saline sprays because it's the activity of soaking the piercing that helps draw out what is inside (or at least that's been the case with me).

NEVER use contact solution on piercings... it has a bunch of additives, and often does nothing for the piercing

 i made a gallon at this ratio 1/4 (level) tsp NON IODIZED SEA SALT per 8 oz DISTILLED water, not spring water, not regular bottled water. it even costs the same at the store. < 1 dollar

 so heres the simple math on that,  1 tsp = 32oz of water, 32oz = 1 quart, 4 quarts = 1 gallon, 3 tsp = 1 (level) tablespoon, since we need 1 teaspoon per quart, that is 1 tablespon + 1 teaspoon for 1 gallon of solution.

 and since the documentation calls for between 1/8 tsp and 1/4 tsp, i just used 1 level tablespoon. so without figuring out that exact ratio. i know its somewhere between 1/8 tsp and 1/4 tsp. 

 so for simple purposes of creating your own at home, here is what you do, add a tablespoon of NON IODIZED SEA SALT, to 1 GALLON of DISTILLED WATER. shake it once in a while till all the crystals are disolved. So for about a buck, you've made an entire gallon of the solution.

or you could just do the simple math (especially since Australia and Asia have different conversions for teaspoons to tablespoons). 

1/4 tsp salt in 8 oz water thus 16/4 tsp salt in 128 oz water thus 4 tsp in 1 gallon water

Usually in, considering most of the time you are soaking a healing piercing/fresh stretch.

and iodized isn't nessecarily BAD... it's just not ideal
