    horn jewellery

I bought a pair of these..

    http://www.bodyartforms.com/productdetails.asp?ProductID=3172

a while ago and was wondering if i was doing something wrong with taking care of them, i know that organics can dry out and crack if you dont look after them and one of them looks as if its starting to crack in places.

there are only tiny little lines on it, there too small to take a picture of and i was wondering if i hadnt been looking after them properly.

i always keep them well oiled and never get them wet, this is how i thought you should take care of them?

    am i doing anything wrong?

thanks in advance for any help.

This is what I found on BAF.

  • Clean before wearing. Use mild soap and water quickly. Rinse and dry immediately after washing.
  • We recommend taking horn jewelry out before showering, swimming, or water activities.
  • Do not soak in anything, including water!
  • Lightly oil it with coconut oil or jajoba oil about once a week to help keep it from cracking.
  • Every once in a while it could use a polish. If you have a polishing cloth it would help to oil it and polish it with the cloth to keep it in good condition and help keep cracking at a minimal.
  • Do not store in direct sunlight. Do not store in extreme temperatures or the bathroom.
  • Organic jewelry is for healed piercings only.
  • Horn jewelry can not be sterilized or autoclaved

  •

that sounds like cracking is going to happen whatever right?

what do you suggest i polish them with? i usually just use jojoba

    thanks.

    I think that'd be okay.

I dont know tooo much about all of the horn care procedure, but from that quote, I'd think some small cracks can appear over time.

"keep cracking at a minimum" sounds like what your seeing is normal or okay.

thanks alot for your help, i think i might just be over reacting, the lines are very small, almost unnoticable.
