I bought a corset this morning :D (pics!)

    Lookie, lookie! Isn't it gorgeous?

I've been in contact with the designer for a while but I finally paid for it this morning. I've decided to wear it for my graduation in May, if anyone remembers the other thread I made under my old username, this is what I finally decided on. It did cost $339 Canadian shipped, but it will be custom made to my measurements--and I have only one thing to say. THREE INCH WAIST REDUCTION. Yeah baby Cool She said it'd take about 3 weeks to make, and once I receive it I'll find some matching fabric and make a skirt for it. Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, I have experience wearing reducing corsets and short term waist training; the steel doesn't scare me Wink

That is totally awesome, Mixy. I like how you've decided to mix and match your own tastes rather than go for an outfit that's entirely pre-made. :)

Oh my god.  That's amazing and I looked through some of the other things on that site and they're all so beautiful!  I can't believe I've never seen it before, I'm so jealous of you!

If anyone else is a corset enthusiast, I have more linkage to some other corsetiers as well as corset supply sites...Angel

But yesss, I'm so very very excited. I've only ever worn corsets of my own making before, and antique ones in museums and at exhibits at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. I'm interested to see more professional technique and construction, and of course to actually wear it!

That is absolutely gorgeous. I'd like some linkage to a corset supply site, I can't seem to find steel boning anywhere and really want to make a decent corset. Sewing is fun Big Smile

    http://www.farthingalesla.com/

This is the US version of the site I bought my bones and eyelets from. There are also some very helpful instructions and tutorials on the Canadian site, I have no idea if they're on the US one too. Oh, also, I strongly recommend buying spiral steels as opposed to straight steels for your first corset, they're much easier to wear for beginners. Obviously steel boning is supposed to be quite stiff, but the straight steels are probably much moreso than you'd think, so when you go to wear them, it can be VERY difficult to achieve the shape you're looking for. Spiral steels offer the same support but with greater flexibility, which translates into easier lacing (especially if you don't have help to tighten the laces for you) but the same level of waist reduction once secured. You'll still want to buy straight steels for the back (they'll lay parallel to the eyelets) though, because there is tremendous pressure on the eyelets from lacing and you'll want as much reinforcement as possible.  If you have any questions, feel free to PM me! Good luck with your corseting, it's a TON of work but the payoff is amazing <3

Thanks for the advice and link! I've been sewing for a few years and am familiar with patterns and the basics, but this will be the first time I've ever attempted something like this.

    Thanks guys Smile

Actually if you want to go to my DeviantArt (that I haven't updated in agesssss) there are pics and a writeup of the corset I made when I was 15 or so. It's not spectacular and the bones were too stiff, but I'm still proud of it ^_^
